At just 24 years old, Brazillian pro surfer Ricardo Dos Santos has passed away. He was shot three times outside his home yesterday, then airlifted to a local hospital where he underwent several surgeries. Many gave blood in an attempt to save his life but his injuries were too severe and he passed away.
There are conflicting accounts of the incident, but local police have taken two men into custody. The men are brothers, 25 and 17 years old, and it is believed the oldest of the two brothers shot Santos. It has been reported that the 25-year-old was an off-duty cop.
Dos Santos first took center-stage at the Billabong Pro Tahiti in 2012, when he won the Andy Irons Forever Inspiration Award and has remained in the spotlight since. His carefree attitude and incredible skills will be sorely missed by the entire surf community.
