Vitamin D has been proven to have a variety of health benefits. Studies have shown that it can help lower your blood pressure, regulate insulin levels, support the immune system, improve cholesterol levels, and reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke.

Also referred to as the “sunlight vitamin,” it’s no surprise that one of the best ways to reap the benefits of vitamin D is by simply sitting in the sun – when natural sunlight hits the skin it triggers the body’s production of vitamin D. That being said, people who spend a lot of time indoors are more likely to suffer from vitamin D deficiency.

You may be at risk for vitamin D deficiency and not know it. Do you spend enough time outdoors? Do you have a darker skin tone? Are you eating the right foods? Some of the foods with the highest amounts of vitamin D include salmon, sardines, egg yolk, soy milk, liver, and cheese.
