Get the Gear! Minimalist Trail Runners
When New Balance released the MT10 Minimus Trail in early 2011, it was the sprawling company's first serious, head-turning foray into the barefoot/minimalist trend that was just beginning to sweep the running shoe market. What set it apart was it's striking appearance—rubber and mesh that recall an aquasock—and incredible lightness and flexibility. Here's a shoe that was intended for off-road running that had no insole, very little midfoot padding and which was so lightly constructed that you could literally wring it out. On the other hand, it didn't go so far as to have zero drop, opting instead for a small, 4-milimeter drop that serves as a better introduction to minimalist running for those raised on traditional,12-milimeter-plus-drop shoes. Anyway, it was a hit.
Trail runners everywhere have raved about it (except for its lack of rock protection—ouch!), and now you can, too—only for much less money. The Clymb has a New Balance sale going through Thursday late morning (EST) that includes the 2011 women's MT10, as well as clothing and road shoes. Check it out now.
