5 items FITNESS must take on tour
FITNESS is the kinetic musical union of Max Collins, EVE6's charismatic frontman, and Kenny Carkeet, former AWOLNATION multi-instrumentalist wizard. Together, Max and Kenny write, record, and perform vibrant songs that are excited to be alive.
On Oct. 14, FITNESS is hitting the road on the SiriusXM ALT NATION Fall Tour with Big Data and Castlecomer. The band is touring to support its latest full-length album, Karate.
"Karate is just a great word to us. It pops and crackles. Just love the way it sounds," Max commented.
BestReviews asked Max, "What are five items that FITNESS must take on tour?"
#1: A large tube of Aquaphor
"It's a multi purpose ointment with innumerable applications."
Our pick: We like the 14 oz jar of hypoallergenic Aquaphor healing ointment. It protects the skin from further irritation while promoting healing of dry, damaged skin. It's strong enough to be effective on cracked heels, but gentle enough to be used on a baby's skin.
#2: A surplus of iPhone chargers
"You will lose at least one a week."
Our pick: Although you still may want to have a bevy of chargers, life might not be a stressful if you know your iPhone is protected and provided with extended power in a Alpatronix battery case. Not only will this case double the life of your battery, it is Qi-enabled, so it supports universal wireless charging.
#3: A "Do Not Disturb" sign
"Sourced from an unsuspecting hotel to use at hotels that don't have 'Do Not Disturb' signs."
#4: Noise cancelling headphones
"So you can transcend the TSA line."
Our pick: When deadlines are looming, we slip on a pair of Sony's noise cancelling headphones and get to work. These comfortable, lightweight headphones can last up to 80 hours and they block up to 95% of ambient noise so there are far fewer distractions, which results in far better productivity.
#5: Collapsible camping chairs
"So you can set up shop by the bus in a venue parking lot and have a cigar and a kombucha like a gentleman."
Our pick: When we do our downtime, we do it big with the ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Chair. With it's sturdy steel construction - capable of supporting up to an impressive 800 lbs. - dual cupholders, and dual side pockets, the parking lot has never felt more like a luxury vacation.
More About Fitness:
Max and Kenny met back in 2012 while watching a Public Enemy set at a radio festival. That meeting sparked a special bond.
"I found Kenny's enthusiasm about music and pretty much everything else very refreshing," Max told BestReviews. "In a world where it's easy to be a cynic and a pessimist, he rails against the gloom. I think we compliment each other really well musically."
Curiously, what made FITNESS an appropriate band name for Max and Kenny was just how inappropriate of band name it was. "It's simply not a band name, but now it is."
When asked, "Why music? What makes it so special?" Max replied, "Music has always been the antidote to loneliness for me. There's something so powerful about it as a form of communication. It can get to truths that other art forms can't. It's still magic to me."
