Tricks to Avoid Gaining Weight on Vacation
Don’t let the fact that you are on vacation deter you from your weight loss goals. We understand, you may not lose any weight, but you can definitely do what it takes to maintain it.
Staying on track is very important. You can still order a drink at the bar and enjoy a delicious cocktail; but instead of a margarita, drink a tequila and club soda.
Workout in the morning
Workout in your hotel gym or bring your workout with you, and don’t get bored with the same old routine. It is the perfect way to get in your daily workout; break a quick sweat and jump start your metabolism in the morning.
Pack healthy snacks
While on vacation, it is common we may get so busy that we forget to eat. It’s important to remember to eat frequently, and what better way to do that then to pack healthy snacks. Try: Unsalted nuts, fruit or whole grain crackers.
Be careful what you order at the bar
It’s easy to drink your calories on vacation, one margarita turns into two and before you know it, you just consumed the same amount of calories that were in your dinner. If you’re going to order a cocktail on vacation try a drink that is lower in calories – mojito, rum and diet coke, tequila with club soda, champagne etc.
Get enough sleep
Late night? Sleep in a few extra hours. Getting enough sleep on vacation is essential to avoiding weight gain. According to a recent study by the National Sleep Foundation teenagers (14-17) should get 8-10 hours of sleep per night, young adults (18-25) and adults (26-64) should get 7-9 hours and older adults (65+) should get 7-8 hours.
Eat small portions
Try eating on a smaller plate. We tend to eat more when we eat on larger plates and use bigger bowls. When we see our food on a bigger plate, our mind tells us that we are eating a small portion. Use a small plate; this will force you to put less food on your plate and trick your mind into thinking you ate more food.
Check the menus before you choose a restaurant
Before you decide where you are going to eat, go on the internet and look at the restaurant’s menu. You can also call the restaurant ahead of time and ask them if they have any low calorie or small portion entrees.
Wear a fitness tracker
Wearing a fitness tracker on vacation is a constant reminder to keep moving. It will motivate you and keep you on track toward achieving your goals. Fitness trackers keep track of your calories burned, steps, heart rate and more.
