It’s easy to drink your calories on vacation, one margarita turns into two and before you know it, you just consumed the same amount of calories that were in your dinner. If you’re going to order a cocktail on vacation try a drink that is lower in calories – mojito, rum and diet coke, tequila with club soda, champagne etc.

Get enough sleep

Late night? Sleep in a few extra hours. Getting enough sleep on vacation is essential to avoiding weight gain. According to a recent study by the National Sleep Foundation teenagers (14-17) should get 8-10 hours of sleep per night, young adults (18-25) and adults (26-64) should get 7-9 hours and older adults (65+) should get 7-8 hours.

Eat small portions

Try eating on a smaller plate. We tend to eat more when we eat on larger plates and use bigger bowls. When we see our food on a bigger plate, our mind tells us that we are eating a small portion. Use a small plate; this will force you to put less food on your plate and trick your mind into thinking you ate more food.

Check the menus before you choose a restaurant

Before you decide where you are going to eat, go on the internet and look at the restaurant’s menu. You can also call the restaurant ahead of time and ask them if they have any low calorie or small portion entrees.

Wear a fitness tracker

According to WebMD, water helps maintain the balance of body fluids, it can help control calories, energize muscles, keep your skin looking good, help your kidneys and help maintain normal bowel function. So, if you want to feel good on vacation, make sure you are staying hydrated!

Eat breakfast

It’s easy to get sidetracked on vacation, you may run out the door and forget to eat. Grab a piece of fruit or a granola bar; don’t let yourself go without eating your morning nutrients.
