Processed foods are usually (not always) loaded with trans fats that essentially do absolutely nothing for us in terms of nutrition. These fats have been linked to heart disease and increased cholesterol. In fact, because they offer no human health benefits (they just preserve food longer) the FDA wants to ban them!
One way to save yourself from consuming trans fats and processed foods in general is to try to make at least 90% of your own meals. By making your own meals at home you'll know the ingredients that went into the meal were whole and healthy and not highly processed!
