Life isn’t perfect, and neither are relationships; there will be lots of tough conversations and small issues. But there comes a point where enough is enough — especially when it begins to interfere with your mental health and ability to concentrate on other things. If you are experiencing these signs of a toxic relationship, it may be time to re-evaluate your situation.

Constant Judgement

Do you constantly feel like your significant other is judging you? Maybe he or she criticizes the way you look, how you talk, or how you handle situations? This can ruin your self-confidence and cause insecurities. The way you are is just fine, and if you feel like you have to change because your partner says so, then you’re in a toxic relationship.

Lack of Communication

This is a major red flag. When you or the person you are with refuses to talk about problems or change for the better, you’re likely to run into relationship issues. It’s important to discuss how you feel, talk things out, and articulate your feelings. A block in communication only leads to pent-up feelings and more fighting.

When you’re dating someone, you should feel confident and content. But unfortunately, you’re insecure and scared. You find yourself afraid of how your significant other may react, so you constantly find yourself walking on eggshells and bottling up your emotions. Your partner may be possessive, manipulative, or controlling. Jealousy in a relationship is toxic and damaging. Do you truly let things go, or do you harbor the issues, keep them bottled up inside, and then bring them up again during the next fight? If you don’t actually forgive and forget, you will end up in a cycle of fighting over the same issues over and over again.

You have needs, too, but the other person refuses to satisfy them. You’re constantly putting your feelings on the back burner to appease your significant other. If the person you are with refuses to accept that your needs are just as important as theirs, it may be time to walk away.

It doesn’t matter how hard you try; you just can’t seem to focus. The troubles in your relationship take over the space in your mind, and all you find yourself doing is obsessing over how to fix things and keep your partner happy. If the relationship is affecting your mental well-being, it may be time to end it.
