From tours to children’s discovery centers and workshops, the spring is the ideal time to visit America’s public gardens for a unique and fun family experience.
According to the American Public Gardens Association, “A public garden is an institution that maintains collections of plants for the purposes of public education and enjoyment, in addition to research, conservation, and higher learning.” They also explain, related entities include botanical gardens, zoological gardens, sculpture gardens, historic homes and urban greening organizations.
Many of the most beautiful public gardens in the U.S. are Botanical Gardens; "a place where a wide variety of plants are cultivated for scientific, educational and ornamental purposes, often including a library, a herbarium and greenhouses; an arboretum." --American Heritage Dictionary (APGA).
If you have never experienced the beauty of a public garden, now is the time.
