Feature Friday: All About That Bling

Every Friday we chat with one of our blog content network contributors to find out what most inspires them to be fit and find adventure every day.

This week we're chatting with Heather from Divas Run for Bling.

Heather is a runner and a fanatic of all things fitness. She created her blog as a way to document her running journey after a friend finally convinced her to give the sport a try in 2012. She shares weekly updates about everything from her training and workouts to healthy recipes and little tidbits about her life.

Read on to learn more about Heather and her inspiring story.

The Active Times:  How did you first become involved in Running?
Heather:
My best friend since college had been bugging me for years to start running. Finally about two years ago, I signed up for my first 5K and started running. Before I knew it, I had signed up to run my first half marathon and haven't looked back since.

What spurred you start your blog?
I am a back of the pack runner. While there are many health and fitness blogs and running blogs out there, I haven't found that many written by those back of the packers like myself. While the elite runners have great information to share, sometimes it's nice for others to read about someone just like them—the slow runners trying to live a fit and healthy life.

What is the greatest joy you get from Running?
The bling :) Seriously though, I love nothing more than crossing that finish line after 13.1 miles, getting my medal and smiling for the camera—then following that up with a big, juicy burger.

What's the biggest challenge you've had to overcome while Running?
Coming back from my plantar fasciitis injury last summer. It was quite painful and kept me from running for several months.

What advice would you give to someone trying Running for the first time?
Keep at it. There will be challenges and you may not reach your goals right away, but it will be worth it in the end.

Are you passionate about any activities besides Running?
I love fitness in general. When I am not running, I can be found hiking, walking the dog or doing my favorite Shaun T. high intensity interval training workout. I also love cooking (I write about healthy recipes on my blog as well) and curling up with my iPad and reading a good book.

What is your favorite quote, and what do you so like about it?
I am a HUGE Disney fan, so my favorite quote is one from Walt Disney himself.  "All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them." I love this because it reminds me that I can still reach my goals no matter what stands in my way. I just have to be motivated enough and brave enough to keep going.

What is at the top of your bucket list when it comes to Running?
I want to run a half marathon in all 50 states. After my fall racing season I will be at 5.

What, if anything, did you most recently knock off your bucket list?
I ran 2 half marathons in the same week to be able to qualify for the Half Fanatics back in March.

What would your life be like without Running?
My life would not be the same, that is for sure. Running not only helps keep me in shape and healthy, but it is also great for my mental and emotional health as well. I always feel more relaxed, clear headed and happy after I have gone for a run.
