Armstrong Severs All Ties with Livestrong

Steps down from board, Tweets irreverently

On Monday, Lance Armstrong announced that he had severed all formal ties with Livestrong, the cancer-fighting foundation he founded 15 years ago, by stepping down from the board of directors. The move, which comes just 18 days after the former seven-time Tour champ relinquished his position as the organization’s chairman, is seen as an effort to distance Livestrong—and its now faltering donations—from the lying, cheating and doping that surrounds Lance's legacy.

Armstrong served his last day on the board on November 4, according to spokeswoman Katherine McLane, but still “remains the inspiration” behind the Livestrong brand.

"Lance Armstrong was instrumental in changing the way the world views people affected by cancer," new board chairman Jeff Garvey said in a statement. "His devotion to serving survivors is unparalleled and for 15 years, he committed himself to that cause with all his heart,"

While Armstrong has not directly responded to the USADA’s accusations or the cycling world’s acceptance of them, over the weekend, he made his sentiments seemingly clear with a single Tweet:

“Back in Austin and just layin’ around…” he said, with a photo of himself surrounded by his seven yellow jerseys.
