From mid-April to mid-May, trek out to the snake dens of the Narcisse Wildlife Management Area in Manitoba, Canada, to watch as tens-of-thousands of red-sided garter snakes emerge from a winter of hibernation to get hot and heavy, forming giant “mating balls” (yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like).
