An iconic landmark of Oregon, Crater Lake lies in the Cascade Mountain Range and is located within Crater Lake National Park, one of the most underrated national parks in America. It was formed about 7,700 years ago when a volcano's eruption caused its own peak to collapse. Although the lake has an average depth of about 1,500 feet, its maximum depth has been recorded at 1,943 feet, making it the deepest lake in the country and the seventh-deepest on the planet.

Because of clouds, the lake is often hidden from view, but when it is visible, it's one of the most breathtaking views in the country. Rain and snow contribute to the gorgeous waters of Crater Lake, which are known to be impressively clear. In fact, it's possible to see to a depth of more than 100 feet underwater. The deep, bright blue color of this natural wonder makes it one of the most spectacular lakes in the world.
