Seven Must-Watch Stages of the Giro d'Italia

These seven crucial stages are where the Giro will be won and lost

With one week down and two more weeks of racing yet to go, the 2012 Giro d’Italia is still very much anyone’s game. Upstart American racer Taylor Phinney, riding for BMC, came on strong early and brought the maglia rosa back to Verona, but quickly lost it and fell back out of contention following a nasty crash in Stage Three. World Champ Mark Cavendish has two stages to his name, but going into Stage 7is not in the top ten in the general standings.

With riders nearing the first of the mountain stages as they head for the Dolomites, it’s about to get down and dirty at the Giro. And with the Amgen Tour of California seven-day stage race running from Sunday, May 13-20, cycling fans are going to have plenty to keep them occupied in the second half of the month.
