Pro Skier Gets 'Pulled Over' by Police

And, from the looks of the footage, he probably deserved it...

Candide Thovex is one talented skier. A three-time X Games champion (in Big Air, Halfpipe and Slopestyle), a Freeride World Tour champion and—famously—the first person to clear Chad's Gap at the age of 16, we wonder if his skills haven't gone to his head a bit. Especially after seeing this recent clip, in which he spends an average day at his local resort of La Clusaz, running through his favorite jump lines and performing sick tricks like double backflips, 360s, front flips, D spins and rodeo 5s off of smallish natural features (he even does a 360 going uphill on the rope tow!). Candide makes the most of small air and is clearly in his flowstate on home ground.

What's not so cool about the clip is when he and his partner-in-crime, Aziz Benkrich (wearing the red pants), slalom through the lift line. They also disrespect more than their fair share of less surefooted skiers, cutting them off or buzzing just beyond reach at breakneck speed. You've got skills, Candide, yes, but one misstep or a bad reaction from a freaked-out innocent could have ended the day with a trip to the ER. Anyway, he gets his karmic payback at the end of the day, when his final jump—a backflip over a road, where a police car was passing underneath (you get to see it in slomo)—on his way down to the parking lot gets him in trouble with the fuzz. I guess it was just one of those days.
