Five ridiculously refreshing recipes for the end of summer

Alyson S.—At the end of the summer there are no shortages of barbecues, beach parties and backyard soirees to attend. If you're taking your training to the next level, cleansing or detoxing, we say skip the booze and awkward "no, thanks" to sip one of these delightful treats actually worth making.

Ingredients for one serving

Pour the rhubarb syrup into the bottom of a tall glass. Squeeze your lime juice on top. Fill the rest of your cup with ice to keep your drink cool. After this, slowly pour the ginger beer on top of the ice until it reaches the top. Watch the gradient unfold before your eyes and enjoy!

Ingredients for eight servings

  • 2 1/2 tbsp dried lavender
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut sugar
  • 1/4 cup raw honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed organic lemon juice
  • 1 whole lemon (for garnish)
  • 6 cups of filtered water
  • 1 oz of blue algae (like e3Live)

Take our your blue algae from the freezer to allow it to thaw. In a medium-sized pot bring two cups of water, coconut sugar, and honey/maple syrup to a boil. Once boiling, add the dried lavender. Turn off the heat and allow the lavender to steep in the pot until it has cooled.

Once it has cooled, add lemon juice and four cups of water. Pour this mixture over ice in a pitcher. Once everything has settled, give it a stir and pour into a short glass with a little room at the top. Add one shot of blue algae to each glass to give this Lavender Sour some superfood punch! Don't forget garnish with a lemon slice or lavender flower.

Remember to put your blue algae back in the freezer (it's easy to forget).

Ingredients for one serving

Take your frozen coconut water out of the freezer earlier in the day to thaw. Pour your lemongrass syrup, coconut water, lemonade, frozen strawberries, and lime juice into a high-speed blender. Turn on high and blend. Shake and poor into your favourite Daiquiri-ready cup to enjoy. Garnish with strawberries or lime!

Ingredients for one serving

  • 1/2 cup of raw, unpasteurized, organic coconut water
  • 1 oz of organic kale juice (store bought or homemade)
  • 1 oz of organic pineapple juice (store bought or homemade)
  • 4 organic basil leaves
  • Dash of soda water

Pour your coconut water, kale juice and pineapple juice over ice in a short glass. Add 1-3 basil leaves and muddle. Once you're satisfied with your smash (it took me a while), add a dash of soda water and garnish with a fresh basil leaf. 

Ingredients for one serving

  • 2 cups of seedless organic watermelon
  • Juice from two organic limes
  • 2 tbsp of honey/maple syrup
  • Soda water

Poor your watermelon, lime juice and honey/maple syrup into your high-speed blender. Fill the bottom half of your mason jar with your mixture and throw in some ice. Top it off with soda water, garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy. Love these gorgeous candy-stripe straws I found at Williams-Sonoma.
