Contrary to what many people believe, eating fat does not make you fat. “Fat is fabulous for keeping a healthy slim lifestyle,” Alia Steglinski, founder of Shift and Shape, PT, and nutritionist, says. “The body loves eating fat in a balanced meal because it’s essential for normal growth and development.”

Dietary fat provides our bodies energy, helps our bodies absorb and metabolize nutrients (fat helps us absorb fat solvable vitamins), it protects our organs (the brain floats in fat) and fat actually helps the body burn fat,” Steglinski says.

“Eat more healthy fats and cut back on carbs, which can spike blood sugar and elevate your insulin levels, leading to more fat storage,” Claire O'Meara, Holistic Health & Nutrition Coach, says. “Aim to have around 25-30% of your daily intake from good sources of fats.”
