Unknown dangers are prowling in your home, and you are most likely not even aware of them. Now is the time to take control. For some people just a few rites of spring are more or equally satisfying than the annual clean.

The nicer weather and longer days seem to trigger an urge to organize your life. After all, spring is often referred to as the season of new beginnings. It all starts with your living space.

An average house easily accumulates 100 pounds of dangerous waste, which often remains until the residents move out or do an extensive cleanup, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

People are exposed to more than 700,000 different toxic chemicals on a daily basis; other estimates suggest more than 2 million. Some of them are hiding in items you use every day.

Other health reasons to want to declutter have to do with cognitive abilities. Studies have found that physical clutter negatively affects your capability to focus and process information. “The logic is simple: Cluttered environment causes chaos which hinders one’s ability to focus. As a result, the brain’s capacity to process information is affected, and you feel distracted.
