Many people fear falling in love with a friend, but the truth is that the friend that has been there for you all along may make the perfect significant other.
“The reason why the best relationships start as friendships is because there is a mutual understanding with both people,” Certified Life Coach John Musumeci, says. “You are attracted to the person because of the strong bond you have had as friends and you know this person inside out.” Through the good times and the bad times – one of the best parts is that you accept each other for this, he adds.
Friends “are more relaxed in each other’s company, and far more comfortable to just be who they really are,” Musumeci says. “This is a very strong advantage in making a successful relationship.”
Dia Hicks, relationship expert and founder and CEO of SwaggerScan, says that friends develop the basic inclination to care for each other and usually have the other person’s best interests in mind. “Relationships that begin this way stand a better chance of lasting through the normal ups and downs that couples face,” he adds.
