Melissa Federico – With age comes wisdom, but it can also bring rough skin and crow's feet. Don't stress over wrinkles and other common skin problems, because it will only give you more worry lines. Instead, bring back skin's healthy firmness and texture by updating your beauty cabinet. Incorporate some new at-home products and professional treatments into your normal routine to reduce the appearance of these common signs of aging, and you can keep your age a secret.

Rough texture

The aging process can be rough on skin, quite literally. As skin matures, it naturally loses moisture, leaving it feeling unbalanced and dry. But there are several easy ways to improve the appearance of aging skin. Professional microdermabrasion treatments can give skin a healthy jumpstart in the right direction. You can also improve skin's texture regularly at-home with a facial polish and heavier moisturizer suited for the particular needs of mature and aging skin. Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells to reveal a smoother, even texture. Always follow this step with a hydrating moisturizer that includes hyaluronic acid or shea butter to keep skin balanced and soft.

Wrinkles

Over time, regular facial expressions can eventually lead to wrinkles. With the proper steps, you can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. For lines that have already begun to rest, in-office procedures such as dermal fillers yield instant results, but they eventually wear off and can be expensive to maintain. Instead, use an over-the-counter retinol cream to reduce the appearance of lines. In combination with regular exfoliation, you can enjoy a more youthful-looking complexion.

Age spots

One thing that can make you look older than you are is the appearance of dark spots, commonly called liver or age spots. They typically appear in places that have received the most sun exposure over time, such as the face, chest, and hands. You can reduce the appearance of age spots and discoloration with light-based treatments performed by a dermatologist. Chemical peels are another common and affordable option. Peels using natural alternatives like fruit enzymes may take longer to yield results, but when done in a series they can dramatically reduce the appearance of age spots. There are also natural ingredients that may help, such as kojic acid and licorice extract.

Dark circles

If you've noticed that it's become increasingly harder to conceal the discoloration around your eyes, this delicate area may need some extra special attention. Eye masks are great for targeting under eye concerns, because much like face masks, they are concentrated with specific ingredients that encourage the skin around the eyes to look brighter and more rested within minutes. Look for handy eye patch masks because they are easy to apply and wear while getting ready, and they are typically loaded with tightening and firming ingredients that may help diminish puffiness.

While skin aging is inevitable, there are many great solutions that can help you achieve a younger appearance. Add a few key items to your beauty routine, and you’ll be on your way to more youthful-looking skin.
