During the coronavirus pandemic, everyone is thinking about safety and how to keep their loved ones healthy. It has been advised that people not go out unless necessary and many states have restricted non-essential businesses, but in some cases, you may have to take your children out in public.

Health officials and organizations have asked people to wear masks or cloth face coverings when outside of the home, and especially in public areas. Wearing a mask appropriately can help stop the spread of germs, but what is the correct age that children should wear a mask or cloth face covering?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, masks and cloth face coverings should not be placed on children who are under the age of 2. This is due to the danger of suffocation. Anyone who has a hard time breathing or otherwise has problems removing the mask without any assistance should not wear a mask. Young children often fall into that category. 


If your child is 2 or over and can remove their mask without assistance, it is important they wear a face covering in public places where they may not be able to avoid staying 6 feet away from other people.
