Most serious PC gamers have 2-3 gaming monitors of the same size, which provides a better immersive experience.

Secretlab Magnus gaming desk review

When creating an at-home gaming oasis, people often overlook desks for more apparent gaming needs, such as a gaming PC, monitor and chair. However, with more professionals working from home than ever before, many of them are looking to upgrade their gaming and work setup with a desk that can meet all of their needs.

Secretlab claims to have the solution. Having dominated the gaming chair market for years, the company has expanded its product line to include the Magnus computer desk for gaming. Secretlab promises this super-slim gaming desk, made of ultra-durable metal construction, is a new way to get organized.

To see if the Secretlab Magnus metal desk could organize our gaming and work setup, we put it to the test. Here’s what we found.

How we tested the SecretLab Magnus Desk

We tested the Secretlab Magnus Desk for several weeks using our current gaming setup, which includes a Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 gaming chair, dual monitor desk mount, two 27-inch monitors and a custom-built gaming computer with lots of cables. Our tester was looking for a sleek desk made of high-quality materials with a cable management system that could accommodate existing equipment.

What is the Secretlab Magnus desk?

Although the Secretlab gaming computer desk was built with gamers in mind, its sleek look and organizational features attract working professionals and gamers alike. It’s constructed from ultra-durable metal and has a super-slim profile to fit in a variety of spaces. The dimensions are 59.1 inches long, 27.6 inches wide and 29 inches high.

How does the Secretlab Magnus desk work?

One of the main features of this custom gaming desk is actually the material itself. It’s constructed almost entirely of magnetic stainless steel, creating the base for the desk’s entire magnetic system.

The main magnetic accessory is a magnetic desk mat, which Secretlab has named their MAGPAD. It runs the entire length of the desk with a magnetic backing, so it never shifts, creases or moves around. The desk mat is topped with plush and durable leatherette, which feels nice on arms and elbows. It’s also made to be used with just about any gaming mouse.

However, the most appealing feature is most likely the cable management system, designed with the magnetic desk in mind. The base of the system is the cable tray, which runs along the back of the entire desk to hide a lot of wires. The hinged top easily opens and a slight gap allows cables to run into the tray. Wires can also exit out the sides of the cable tray or through the base.

Additional accessories like a magnetic cable sheath, magnetic cable anchors and a magnetic headphone hanger organize and hide wires even further. Those who dislike looking at cables will enjoy the plethora of options available to hide messy-looking wires.

How does the Secretlab Magnus desk perform?

The first thing we noticed upon receiving our package was that it’s very heavy due to being constructed almost entirely of stainless steel. Secretlab lists the box as weighing 117 pounds, so you’ll likely need another person to help carry it to your desired location.

The instructions were straightforward and it took us about 30 minutes to complete assembly. However, because the tabletop is so heavy, Secretlab suggests enlisting a second person to help assemble and lift the tabletop upright. There’s also an easy-to-follow assembly video on the website.

Thanks to height adjustments on each leg, we were able to prevent any wobbling of the desk, including on uneven floors. The desk felt sturdy with no shaking or wobbling, even when we used our mouse. We have a lot of cables and thick plugs, but the cable management tray could fit all of the cables and a power strip inside and was still able to close. We appreciated that the Magnus desk was capable of hiding all our wires.

The height of the desk worked perfectly with our Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 gaming chair with legroom to spare. We also enjoyed the sleek look and slim profile of this computer gaming desk, as well as the black and red trim. Not only does the desk look premium, but all components also feel like they’re of high quality.

We ran into one main issue with our current gaming equipment. We used a monitor mount with our previous desk, which gave us more space on the desktop that we appreciated. However, due to the Magnus’ cable management tray, we weren’t able to attach our current monitor mount and instead had to switch to a monitor stand. It’s important to note that other monitor mounts may be compatible with the Secretlab desk, but you’ll want to check before purchasing.

Overall, we feel like the Magnus desk is more aesthetically pleasing than our old desk due to its sleek design and ability to hide cables. We also enjoyed the magnetic desk mat, which offers comfort and desk protection.

Secretlab Magnus desk pros

If you’re looking for a gaming or work desk specifically to hide a mountain of cables, the Secretlab Magnus desk is an ideal choice. A desk free of cables already looks attractive, but the sleek design and slim profile make it even more appealing and professional looking.

We appreciated how the Magnus desk felt. It’s sturdy and heavy, so you never have to worry about wobbling or shaking. Additionally, the desk mat makes the tabletop a comfortable place to rest your elbows or arms. Also, for a large and heavy desk, it is surprisingly simple to put together.

Secretlab Magnus desk cons

While the Secretlab Magnus desk pairs perfectly with its magnetic desk pad, magnetic cable sheath and magnetic headphone hanger, those aren’t included in the price of the desk. Instead, every add-on is an additional price, which many users dislike.

There aren’t many size options, which limits the spaces where this desk could fit. Also, it’s very heavy and requires an additional person to carry the package and assemble the gaming desk.

Is the Secretlab Magnus desk worth it?

Based on our experience, we feel the Secretlab Magnus desk is an excellent choice for those looking to take their gaming to the next level. The cable management system is in a class of its own and can store headphones and keep wires organized and out of the way.

We also recommend the Secretlab Magnus metal desk to gamers who work from home and are looking for a way to organize both areas of their life in one convenient space.
