How to prepare for tomorrow’s Prime Day event

Amazon’s biggest sales day of the year is tomorrow, and it’s an ideal time to pick up personal essentials and get ahead on your holiday shopping. The sales celebration promises to be bigger this year than ever before, and you’re sure to find pet products, appliances and plenty of electronics amongst the most popular items.

Navigating such a big event can be tricky, even if you’ve shopped on Prime Day in the past. It’s a good idea to get prepared and know how you’re going to approach your Prime Day shopping so you can make the most of it.

Preparing for Prime Day

Make sure you have a Prime membership

Unlike Black Friday or Cyber Monday, Prime Day is only available to shoppers with an active Prime membership. If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can get it for $12.99 a month or $119 for an annual membership.

If you haven’t tried a free 30-day trial recently, you may be able to sign up for a trial to participate in Prime Day. To see if you qualify for a Prime Day trial, head over to Amazon’s Prime page — if you qualify for a 30-day trial, it will let you know at the top of the page.

Amazon also offers Prime memberships to students for only $6.49 a month and to qualifying government assistance recipients for $5.99 a month.

Consider buying groceries on Prime Day

This year, the Prime Day deals will extend to Whole Foods, so it can be a great time to get some grocery shopping done. Whole Foods already has a number of exciting deals on their site and will continue to run new deals throughout Prime Day. If you don’t want to leave your house during the event, many Whole Foods items can be shipped right to your door.

Although groceries typically aren’t the most popular Prime Day items, you also have the option to buy groceries on Amazon using a SNAP EBT card should you find any good deals.

Prepare your devices

The Amazon mobile app is one of the easiest ways to keep up with Amazon Prime Deals and is available on iOS and Android devices. After you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll be able to see all active Prime Day deals on the “Deals” tab. By clicking “Watch This Deal,” you can keep track of when the deal goes live and how many are left. If you want push notifications when the sale goes live, make sure to enable alerts in your Amazon app settings.

If you plan to shop on a desktop or laptop computer, it’s a good idea to bookmark the Amazon Deals page as well as the Prime Day page. These pages will be updated with deals throughout the event and already have plenty of active deals to choose from leading into Prime Day.

If you have an Amazon Alexa device, say “Alexa, keep me posted on Prime Day” to receive Prime Day alerts through your voice assistant as well.

Which items will likely be on sale?

Leading into Prime Day, popular items like the Shark ION Robot Vacuum and the Blue Snowball Microphone have already seen discounts as high as 30%. By reviewing popular sales from previous years and items that are on sale right now, you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect for Prime Day.
