We highly recommend buying your kids backpacks and not tote bags for school. They're better for comfort and tend to last longer.

The time is almost here for the kids to head back to school. Yes, you'll soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief and get your life back in order now that they are returning to the classroom.

But before you get too caught up in the excitement, you will want to make sure they have all that they need in terms of school supplies for the upcoming year.

Our favorite book bag

Besides  the usual suspects like pencils, pens and paper, we say to add the Borealis student backpack from North Face that's not only stylish but also perfect for putting all their things in from books to tablets and more.

Our favorite art sets

For all the artwork they will create this school year, make sure they have the best of the best in colored pencils like those from Shuttle Art, a terrific set offering 136 vibrant colors.

Speaking of art, consider a top-of-the-line oil paint set like Native Italian Earth oils from Williamsburg. If your artist is more into using a computer to draw, we like Wacom's digital drawing tablet that effortlessly mimics traditional brushes, pencils and markers.

Our favorite notebooks

Next up, students will most definitely need and want a decent notebook for taking notes and/or keeping private thoughts all in one place; our choice is Rhodia's Black Webnotebook.

Our favorite tablets

Of course, in this Digital Age, owning a tablet, or laptop is a must and your student should not be left in the dark. For homework, at the library, in class or everything else in between, we like the Vivobook laptop and for younger students, we are excited about Amazon's Fire HD 8. If you have a son or daughter in secondary school you might take a look at Apple's iPad Pro.

Our favorite lunchboxes

Every pre-high school student will need a lunch box that keeps their meals cold or hot and ready for them to enjoy at high noon. We opt for Thinkfit's insulated lunch box and don't forget something to keep drinks cold or hot throughout the day with a quality Thermos.

Our favorite back-to-school clothes

Students also need a full stock of athletic socks for physical ed class and for everyday socks to keep feet warm and dry. High school girls need a smart makeup brush set to use before they head out the door. We like the set by Jenny Patikin along with a comfortable pair of cool Ugg boots to help them looking oh so fashionable through the winter months.
