Make your own cool desserts with these new kitchen gadgets

Debbie L. Sklar

These kitchen appliances will simplify the way you make desserts.

After a day of swimming, wakeboarding, jet skiing, or just soaking up the sun, why not reward yourself with a cool summer dessert?

A true summer favorite is strawberry shortcake with fresh berries and angel food cake topped with Cool Whip or whipped crème. You can prepare your own strawberry shortcake with a handful of fresh berries, slice or wedge of packaged angel food cake, (or bake your own using Wilton's mold) and a big old dollop of crème you can make using the Otis whipped crème dispenser.

Another seasonal favorite is ice cream; create your own confection with this one from Breville or if you prefer frozen yogurt, we like the Euro Cuisine. Use fresh, plain yogurt and seasonal berries for a cool, sweet treat.

Fruit salads are also a good way to cool off when the sun sets; in a large bowl mix up fresh cut watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, apples, grapes, and top with some fresh granola, shredded coconut and drizzle with plain or your favorite flavored yogurt.

You can also make yourself a blended cappuccino like those found at fancy coffeehouses in your right in your own kitchen. Using a classic blender or Magic Bullet's NutriBullet; add fresh brewed coffee made fast with Bassani's cold brewer, ice, and/or milk/soy/almond milk. Blend, and top with whipped crème in a tall glass with a straw.

If you like sweets, don't forget the kiwi pie or lemon meringue. Make either at home the night before and eat after cooling down on Kitchenatics cooling and roasting racks.

How about some delicious frozen pudding pops made with your favorite flavor? Easy to make, and super fun to eat regardless of your age when you use easy popsicle molds that go straight into your freezer. They create an awesome pudding pop a few hours later.

Ice cream sandwiches are not only enjoyable to make - grab the kids when they're bored - they are even better to eat on a warm summer night among family. Make your cookies first, using Rachel Ray's 10-piece bake set to bake whatever kind your sweet tooth is craving. Then, create your ice cream with the Breville from above and freeze for a few hours in baggies. 'Voilà!' -- a few, fast chilly ice cream treats that will have them hollering for more.

And of course, everybody loves a good, old-fashioned milk shake on a hot day. Try Cuisinart's Classic Drink Mixer to make a smooth and creamy shake with your favorite ice cream flavor. Pair it up with a juicy burger from the grill and some fries made in GoWiseUSA's electric air fryer, for a yummy dinner.

Cool summer treats are what make the season memorable, so don't delay and get busy with one or all these cooler than cool ideas.
