How to Map Out Your Prime Day Strategy

Here’s how you should plan to make the most of those Prime Day deals
How to Map Out Your Prime Day Strategy

Amazon has announced when its biggest shopping day — Prime Day — will be this year: July 16. It starts at 3 p.m. EDT and runs through July 17 for a full 36 hours of great deals.

It’s the longest version of the event the e-commerce giant has ever done, but it’ll pass quickly as deals pop up suddenly and sell out quickly. So coming up with a game plan is useful, helping you manage the blowout once it starts so that you can get the best deals for your kitchen, camping trip, home gym, and more.

Here are the five steps you can take to maximize your haul this Prime Day:

Get an Amazon Prime Membership

You can’t unlock the deals without a Prime membership. It costs $119 a year (or $12.99 a month). Join the more than 100 million others by signing up here. The good news: Amazon offers a 30-day free trial, which gives you two-day free shipping, unlocks several streaming services, including providers of music, movies, and books along with a multitude of other benefits.

Check Early

Amazon will start rolling out sale prices from now until a few days after Prime Day. So if you see a price you like (and you should track those using a tool like CamelCamelCamel), jump on the offer when you can.

Check Often

One highlight of past Prime Days were the “lightning deals,” which are true to their names: They are gone as quickly as they come. They cover several categories, so there will be offers on everything from fashion to technology upgrades (smart home devices, especially the ones made by Amazon, should be big sellers this year.)

Plan What You Want

With so many things competing for your attention, it’s smart to make a wish list so you don’t miss out on anything you need (or really want). The multitude of offers can be overwhelming, and having a plan will help you stay on track. Prime Day is a lot like Christmas shopping – and nothing helps Christmas go smoothly quite like making a list.

Get Back on Course

If you get lost — or just enjoy browsing — no worries! If you aren’t sure what to buy on Prime Day, email us here at BestReviews, and we’ll reply ASAP with advice. That way, you know you’re getting the best deals on products you will truly love.

Give Back

Visit and for every purchase you make, Amazon will donate a portion of that to the nonprofit you designate. Engage in some retail therapy while helping others out, too. Seems like a win-win. Prep your shopping list by making sure you’re set with all your camping and hiking gear essentials.
