The 14 Biggest Weight Loss Mistakes Experts See

You may be sabotaging your weight loss goals without even knowing it

You have been trying to lose those last 10 pounds, but regardless of how healthy you have been eating and how often you have been hitting the gym, the number on the scale just won’t budge. You feel like you’re doing everything right, when the reality is that you may be sabotaging your weight loss goals without even knowing it.

Exercise is one of the most important components to weight loss but the truth is that too much or too little can backfire. “While many people can suffer from lack of exercise, others can become addicted and end up exercising too much,” says Jordan Pie, Changing Habits Nutritionist. “The problem with this is that we are so used to being busy all the time that we often neglect our body’s screaming cries for rest.” It is important to rest, even if only for a short period of time, to open up the channels of communication between your brain and body, she adds.

For some people, tracking your weight is a measure of progress, and although there are many ways to do so, checking your weight on the scale is said to be the most common. Unfortunately, the scale may be counterproductive and provide inaccurate results. “If you’re trying to lose weight, keeping a close eye on your weight is probably one of the worst things you can do, especially in the very beginning,” says Julia Buckley, fitness trainer and author of The Fat Burn Revolution, says. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day; you may weigh less after using the bathroom and more after eating a big meal.
