For those of you who dread the same every day workout routine, group fitness classes will not disappoint. They offer variety – dance, HIIT training, strength training and more.

With the help from a variety of personal trainers, instructors and fitness sites such as zumba.com, in no particular order, have compiled a list of the best group fitness classes of 2016.

Barre

Contrary to what many people may believe, Barre class isn’t just for ballerinas. You don’t need to have a background in dance and you don’t need to be extremely flexible. Barre helps you engage your core and improves your posture. It’s a great way to get in a good strength training workout – without the weights. You will engage in deep stretches and bodyweight exercises. “We truly feel Studio Barre has brought the best in fitness in 2016 as we hear it every day from our clients,” said Lauren Gregory, Director of Operations for Studio Barre. “Our choreography changes often & hones in on the small muscle groups creating the long and lean body we all crave.”

Bokwa

Bokwa is a great cardio workout. The class is inspired by a South African Dance. It’s a complete total body workout that incorporates cardiovascular exercise and dance. It has been proven to burn a great amount of calories.

The Cut

This cardio-forward boxing workout is offered at Equinox. Jessica Mazzucco, Certified Personal Trainer, Tier 3 Equinox explains that The Cut is an exciting boxing class where you work out to the beat. It incorporates light weights and HIIT training, which targets more fat. Mazzucco is also the instructor of Best Butt Ever – a new group fitness class at Equinox that targets your glutes.

Zumba Step

If you are looking to strengthen and tone your legs and glutes, look no further than Zumba Step. This class takes the average Zumba class to a whole new level. “Zumba® Step increases cardio and calorie burning, while adding moves that define and sculpt your core and legs,” according to zumba.com.

SoulCycle

SoulCycle group fitness classes are located throughout New York City. It’s an indoor cycling class with rocking music, inspirational instructors and candlelight. They offer a great fat-burning cardio, full body workout.

CrossFit

CrossFit gyms made our list as one of the best gyms in America for 2016. That being said, it has become one of the best group fitness classes as well. These classes are intense – they provide a program that enhances cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, speed, balance, stamina, strength, coordination and flexibility.

CKO Kickboxing

CKO Kickboxing classes are located throughout the country – California, Florida, New York and New Jersey, just to name a few. It’s a group fitness class that is geared towards both beginner and advanced levels. “Fitness Kickboxing is the number one fat-burning, cardio exercise, with up to 1,200 calories burned during a one hour class,” according to ckokickboxing.com. A review on Yelp says: “The Best Workout money can buy... Great Instructors, Loud Music, Hell of a workout...Best way to spend 60mins at a gym...”

Spinning Class

Ivy Dames, personal trainer, says that cycling classes have become a huge trend in Seattle, along with boot camp fitness classes. Spin classes are indoor classes, led by a certified instructor. They are great cardio workouts, set to up-beat music and are “very suitable for people who want to balance out higher-impact exercises (like running) or for people who have some joint problems,” according to sparkpeople.com.

Aqua Zumba

Aqua Zumba takes the average aquatic exercise to a whole new level. It’s a high-energy group fitness class that has less impact on your joints – helping you really get loose. “Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles,” zumba.com explains.

Tabata Bootcamp

Taught by certified instructors, this 8-week group fitness class has become extremely popular in 2016. Tabata sessions are based on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). “Members meet in small groups with their trainer 2-4 times a week for comprehensive total body workouts that focus on lower body, upper body, and core providing both cardio and strength,” tabatabootcamp.com explains. They are short classes that torch calories and boost your metabolism.

Orange Theory Fitness

Aiming to inspire you, Orange Theory Fitness hosts an energetic fitness environment to keep you motivated throughout your workout. They have great trainers and top-notch equipment. Their sessions are made to push you, they cater to individuals of all fitness levels and they say clients burn an estimated 500 to 1,000 calories per workout. A member said: “Fun… and it really pushes you. I feel like a million bucks when I leave… I know I have worked REALLY hard for an hour solid.”

 

Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do made our list as one of the top group fitness classes because it enhances both your body and mind. “It is not only a physical sports fitness class but a mental one as well,” Robert Millett second degree black belt of Martial Arts Unlimited explains. “The martial art incorporates both strength and spirit – a relaxed mind and a powerful fist.” With guidance from master instructors William Connolly and Davin Sessa, they are able to motivate their students and help them fulfill their fitness goals.
