Double Up Your Cooking

This is a great strategy to prevent ordering last-minute takeout. “Make a double batch of dinner one night, then just warm them up the next night,” says nutritionist Amy Gorin, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition in Jersey City, New Jersey. “Try a casserole with bean pasta or a stir-fry with grilled chicken, veggies, and brown rice.”

Begin a Meal With Water

“Preliminary research reveals that drinking water before a meal may help you lose weight,” Gorin says. “The water may help you feel fuller, ultimately helping you eat less during the meal.” If you don’t want to drink plain water, try hot water with lemon or unsweetened iced tea.

Join a Group Fitness Class

For those of you who dread the same everyday workout routine, group fitness classes will not disappoint. It’s the perfect way to burn calories, meet people with the same interests as you, and maybe even make a few new friends. Some of the most popular fitness classes of 2016 were spinning, barre, CKO Kickboxing, and Orange Theory Fitness.

Have a Healthier Snack

“Having a mid-morning or afternoon snack can help tide you over till the next meal,” Gorin says. “But make sure you’re eating a snack that’s satiating and doesn’t contain so many calories that it’s really a meal!” One of Gorin’s favorite healthy snacks is KIND’s new Double Dark Chocolate Healthy Grains, a gluten-free bar that combines five whole grains with cocoa and dark chocolate for just 150 calories. “I like to pair it with an apple or a pear,” she adds.

Drink Your Coffee Black

If you take out a teaspoon of sugar and two tablespoons of creamer per two cups of coffee daily, that saves more than 100 calories a day, which equates to more than 10 pounds a year, Gorin says.

Try a Detox

One of the best and easiest ways to shed a few extra pounds this year is to frequently detox and flush out the toxins in your body. Juice and smoothie cleanses, such as Raw Generation’s Protein Cleanse, contain the essential vitamins and nutrients needed for a full-body detox. The Protein Cleanse is packed with protein, greens, and antioxidant-rich superfoods.

Try a Different Bread Topping

“One of my favorite weight-loss tips is to top bread with roasted garlic instead of butter,” Gorin says. “You get the creamy mouth feel for only 4 calories per garlic clove.” On the other hand, a teaspoon of butter has 34 calories, she adds. “Do this and also choose the smallest end piece instead of the biggest middle piece of bread.”

Keep Fruit Salad in the Fridge

“Make it front and center so it’s the first thing you see,” Gorin says. “You may be more likely to reach for this versus something more caloric when you’re craving something sweet.”

Stay Hydrated

It’s important to stay hydrated! Drinking water helps relieve your body of toxins, and consuming water before a meal will help you feel fuller faster. Tip: Get in the routine of drinking warm lemon water every morning. Lemon water helps your body eliminate waste products while aiding in the body’s digestive system. It detoxes your body, rejuvenates your skin, boosts your mood, cleanses your liver, and helps relieve heart burn.

Have a Frozen Smoothie for Dessert

Gorin loves freezing a half-cup serving of a smoothie (such as my Berry Almond Cocoa Smoothie) and then spooning into it as a dessert in lieu of ice cream. “If you’ve been having a cup of chocolate ice cream every night, this could save over 100 calories a day,” she says.

Portion Out Cookies

“Use a medium cookie scoop when you bake cookies. The scoop holds just 1.5 tablespoons of cookie dough. Then bake just one or two cookies and freeze the rest of the dough,” Gorin says. “You can put the dough on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper in the freezer.” Once the dough is frozen, transfer into a freezer zip-top bag, she adds. “Use this strategy to prevent overdoing it on the cookies!”

Drink Green Tea

Green tea is more than just a warm, soothing liquid. It is one of the healthiest beverages in the world, and it’s known as one of the best teas for weight loss. It has been proven to aid in fat loss and boost your metabolic rate, which in turn increases the amount of fat you burn. Tip: Start your morning with a cup of green tea and get your metabolism revved up for the day.

Don’t Try Everything at the Party

“Next time you’re at a housewarming party or a birthday brunch, try this tactic: Survey the food spread first, then add the items you feel you can’t live without on your plate,” Gorin says. “Fill the rest with lower-calorie food, like salad and fruit.”

Reduce Stress

Instead of dwelling on life’s stresses, focus on the positive and do a little something every day that brings you pleasure. Simply disconnect from the world and take some time to relax. Reducing stress will help lower your body’s cortisol levels, a hormone that increases appetite and promotes the storage of fat.

Use Healthier Breakfast Toppers

“Instead of topping pancakes with butter or syrup, use defrosted frozen fruit,” Gorin explains. “And rather than topping your oatmeal with honey, try cinnamon, a spice with sweetness but very few calories.”

Get a Personal Trainer

Invest in yourself and your overall health and well-being by hiring a personal trainer this year. They will keep you motivated and encourage you, teach you the proper techniques, and provide you with a workout regimen for achieving your ultimate goals.

Eat More Fiber

Fiber is extremely important for the body’s overall health. It plays a crucial role in the health of our digestive system. But when it comes to weight loss, eating fiber helps increase the feeling of fullness. Some of the best fiber- filled superfoods include apples, green beans, strawberries, chickpeas, black beans, brown rice, oatmeal, and avocados.
