For those of you who can’t find time to exercise with your busy schedule, there is good news… you can burn calories throughout the day by participating in no-sweat activities.

Simple things such as chewing gum, fidgeting and drinking coffee increase the amount of calories you burn.

Get moving at work; walk and talk while you’re on the phone, kick-start your metabolism by just eating breakfast in the morning and take vitamins for weight loss to enhance your caloric burn.

Burn more calories, feel healthy and stay productive with these tips and tricks.

1. Chew Gum

According to Fit Day, “chewing gum burns roughly 11 calories an hour.” This may seem small, but think about it… if you chew gum every day for 4 hours you will have burned approximately 300 calories by the end of the week. Just make sure you are chewing sugarless gum to avoid unnecessary calories, and painful cavities.

Make it a priority to get in a good laugh every day. “According to a Vanderbilt University Medical Center study, "ten to 15 minutes of laughter could increase energy expenditure by 10 to 40 calories per day, which could translate into about four pounds a year (Fit Day).”

3. Drink Coffee

4. Turn up the A.C.


Spending time in cooler temperatures has actually been proven to boost calorie burn by up to 30 percent (Prevention). So, crank up that AC, chill out at home, and burn some extra calories. Bonus: Turning up the A.C. has also proven to help people fall asleep faster and sleep better.

5. Fidgeting

Tap your pen on your desk, wiggle your leg in your seat and burn extra calories. “According to an Iowa State University study, researchers found that those who frequently fidgeted, stood up, and walked around could burn an additional 300 calories per day, compared to those who remain stationary (totalbeauty.com).”

6. Sleep


Lack of sleep slows down your metabolism and increases your hunger and appetite. This results in fewer calories burned and more calories consumed.  Also according to Health Status, “you burn more calories when you are in a deep sleep than when you are just lying reading in bed or tossing and turning.” Therefore, your ability to burn more calories throughout the day largely relies on the overall time and quality of sleep.

7. Relax and Destress

According to nbcnews.com, stress causes the body to release cortisol, which in turn causes more calories to be stored as fat, especially in your abdomen.

Believe it or not, the simple act of standing instead of sitting will help you burn extra calories. According to LiveStrong, “making the standing adjustment for four hours each day can burn an extra 80 to 200 calories -- helping you lose 8 to 20 pounds over the course of a year.”

9. Drink Green Tea


Green tea has very powerful effects on the body. It contains nutrients and antioxidants that help your body function. One of the main powers of green tea is that is aids in fat loss. It is proven; green tea boosts your metabolic rate which in turn increases the amount of calories burned.
