“Rather than stretch before a workout, try an active warm up. Extend and contract each part of your body in small, controlled movements. Make each movement deliberate and active—for instance, don’t just kick your leg back and forth, but concentrate on the feeling of raising and lowering your leg slowly. Building upon this will place your attention on muscle contraction, which will help your muscles before and after your workouts. As you increase the ability of your muscles to appropriately contract, you’ll strengthen naturally and also reduce your risk of injury.”
