Celebrities Who Slimmed Down, and What You Can Learn From Them

Hollywood residents have been obsessed with looking a certain way for as long as movies have existed. Most of the time that means appearing worryingly thin. Actors or actresses have had to change their physique dramatically – for a role or just publicity.

Adele has slowly lost weight over the years. She didn’t take a magical pill; she simply cutting back on sugar and carbs. Note that she didn’t deprive herself of treats; she just ate fewer of them. She has also been going to the gym.

Jennifer Hudson

The Grammy Award-winning singer and Oscar winner was perhaps one of the most famous spokesperson of Weight Watchers. She went from size 16 to size 6. The key for her has been small portions and surrounding yourself with healthy snacks. She eats chocolate, doesn’t smoke, and she never does crash diets.

50 Cent

He shocked his fans when he posted a photo of himself looking worryingly thin – he had lost more than 50 pounds in nine weeks. (This is not healthy; a pound or two at most a week is what trainers and nutritionists recommend.) It was for a movie in which he plays a cancer patient. He said he was running a lot to suppress his appetite. He went on a quid dieting and running on a treadmill three hours a day.


Christian Bale

He had admitted several times that he used “absurd” methods to lose weight for his famous role in The Machinist (He lost 60 pounds for it). Smoking and drinking was one of them. These are two of the worst things you can do to your body. He’s also had to gain a lot of weight – more than 40 pounds – for movies. He has had to trim down for other roles, and, thankfully, he had done it in a healthier way with diet and exercise.

Randy Jackson

He had admitted that he’s tried pretty much everything, including urine of pregnant women, according to WebMD. Nothing worked. He underwent gastric bypass surgery, a procedure in which a surgeon creates a smaller stomach pouch to curb food intake by stapling a portion of the stomach, to energize his weight loss efforts and step on the path toward good health. He also started eating healthy foods and exercises on regular basis.

Oprah Winfrey

She has struggled with weight for a long time. A simple Google search reveals photos of her as a thin person and also as obese. Her weight loss journey has been a roller-coaster. She’s tried crash dieting and other ways to quickly lose weight such as a liquid diet; eventually she gained it all back, plus some more. Yo-yo dieting doesn’t work.

John Goodman

Remember him in Roseanne? He has lost more than 100 pounds over the last two years. Good for him! He did it by simply not eating all the time. “In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack of bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits,” he said. “Then this time I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise.”

Michael Moore

He has posted on Facebook about his weight loss journey. He walks every day for at least 30 minutes; and he hasn’t stopped since 2012. Moore lost about 30 pounds over the course of one year. This is a healthy pace. He has even started a trend on Twitter – #walkwithmike.

Jessica Simpson

She is another celebrity who is famous for her fluctuating weight, among other things, and her struggles with keeping the pounds off. How did she get back to her Daisy Duke looks? With good old-fashioned diet. She walks a lot, every chance she gets. The goal is at least 10,000 steps a day. She also watches what she eats carefully.

Queen Latifah

She understood early on that losing weight is not about getting skinny, it’s about being healthy. This is the best motivation you can have to shed the extra pounds and never gain them back. Queen Latifah had been working with a professional trainer, doing yoga, and following a diet of vegetables, fruits, eggs, and other healthy foods. Her workouts – at least five days every week – consist of lots of treadmill and elliptical machine. “I kind of keep everything in moderation, exercise and eat right,” she has said. Sounds familiar?

Seth Rogen

Back in 2012 he lost 30 pounds with the 5 Factor Diet with each meal containing only contain five ingredients. Eating five times a day to keep your metabolism up but consuming low glycemic-index foods so your blood sugar levels don’t skyrocket.

Oscar-winner Mo'Nigue has lost more than 80 pounds over the past few years and is keeping off the weight. She has been exercising a lot. What keeps her motivated – the fact that she needs to be and stay healthy so she can spend quality time with her family for as long as possible.

She once said that weight loss made her feel miserable and that she had been forced to do to for her pop career. “I like wrecked my knees and my feet because all I would do is put in headphones and run. I was at the gym all the time,” she said of her weight loss method.

Diet foods were not part of the menu because they never fill you up and are usually filled with unhealthy alternatives to make up for the lost sugar.

She lost 20 pounds for her Netflix zombie series the Santa Clarita Diet. What worked for her were portion-controlled meals, yoga and running. She also cut junk from her diet.

She, too, just cut all the junk food from her meals and saw results. In 2014 she had partnered with NutriSystem and lost about 40 pounds. She has also been working with a personal trainer and with friends at her house. “The best part is that when we work out together, we just want to keep going so sometimes we end up working out for hours at a time,” she has said.

She has lost more than 45 pounds. She started by adding a few small healthy changes to her lifestyle. She was watching what she was eating and exercised under the guidance of a personal trainer. It may have taken longer but it surely works in the long-term. There is no strict diet or workout regimen involved.

Remember him in Superbad back in 2007? He has changed a lot since then. He has said that he just started looking after himself and starting a better diet. “It was mostly diet. Carey has been known for her fluctuating weight over the last few years. She has been slowly losing some of that weight as of 2013 after hiring a personal chef. She had also been following the Jenny system. There have been unconfirmed reports that she had undergone gastric sleeve surgery, which shrinks the size of the stomach so you eat less.
