People don’t usually associate airports with places where they go to eat and have a nice time. But some places may change their minds because if the quality and variety of food they offer waiting passengers. The "World's Best Airport Dining Experience", on which the following list is based, is voted for by customers around the globe in the World Airport Survey by consumer-aviation website Skytrax.
1. Hong Kong International Airport
Moving up from second place the year before, Hong Kong International Airport takes the prize for best dining experience due to its big range of high-quality cafeterias and restaurants serving authentic food. In addition to Asian eaters at both terminals, there are Chinese restaurants, Hong Kong style coffee shops, bars, and western restaurants. The airport is also on the list of best airports to get stuck in.
2. Singapore Changi Airport
This seaport, too, moved one spot up the latter. Try the Thai Noodle Bar where you can pick mouthwatering array of Thai street foods. Those hungry for sugar and spice have plenty of options with award-wining bakeries and juice bars. There is even a place service delicious Indian food. You can actually get a workout at the airport, which may be wise after all that food.
3. Narita International Airport, Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo Narita Airport was ranked “the best” airport for dining in 2016. You can eat everything from fresh seafood to healthy bowls of ramen and other noodles there. The sushi is so fresh it’ll make you doubt you are eating it at an airport. Whatever you feel like eating, it’s likely at the airport – Japanese, Western, Chinese, and Ethnic cuisine.
4. Incheon International Airport, Seoul, South Korea
The range of options is amazing here – fine dining, elegant eateries, sports bars, fast food hubs. There is a Korean Home-Meal Restaurant where you can try authentic cave-ripened kimchi stew, steamed kimchi, roast mackerel. There is also a place for traditional Southern cuisine.
5. Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar
This airport made a huge leap from 10th place in 2016 to No. 5. You feel like you are traveling the world when eating there because you get to choose among Arabic, European, International, Italian and seafood. Have your meal prepared at celebrity chef Massimo Capra's restaurant.
6. Kansai International Airport, Osaka, Japan
You can take a pick and relax at coffee shops and cafes or stop by for a delicious authentic Japanese meal. Of course there are places to eat sushi, and it always tastes fresh, but you can also try the "okonomiyaki," which is a savory Japanese pancake dish…Or chat with the chefs while admiring their dazzling techniques at Icho.
7. Chubu Centrair International Airport, Nagoya, Japan
Even though Chubu slipped from No. 5 in 2016 eating there is still a fine experience. Make sure yous top by the Suzunami restaurant from old-style Nagoya specialties. Grab a bite to eat at one of their other delicious Italian, Western, French, Chinese or Korean restaurants, and then get a massage at Grand Raffine and visit Japan’s first-ever view bath overlooking an airport, Fu No Yu.
8. Heathrow Airport, London, England
Being on this list is a nice “break” for the biggest airport in London, which usually lands in bad categories such as the busiest or the worst airports. Heathrow is still in the Top 10 after being No. 6 in 2016. Some popular restaurants are Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food, London's Pride by Fuller's, and the chain, Giraffe.
9. Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Texas
This is one of the most expensive airports in the U.S. for 2017, and it just made it to the Top 10 of the best airports to eat. The options seem endless – breakfast, coffee bars, fast food, gluten-free options, vegetarian, and most have kid-friendly menus. And yes, there is a tequila bar.
10. Munich Airport, Germany
With showers, doctors, pharmacies and baby changing facilities, this airport has everything you need to ensure a comfortable stay. The food is pretty good, too. There are 60 restaurants, cafes and bistros, but make sure you stop by Airbräu, which has Europe's only brewery in an airport. It also has its own beer garden.
