Maintain a strong immune system and healthy tissues by consuming vitamin C. Experts say it is one of the most effective nutrients for your body.
The benefits of vitamin C are endless – it helps decrease the duration of the common cold, maintain blood vessels, prevent cell damage, and help fight free radical damage, just to name a few.
Some of the best food sources for vitamin C include guavas, kiwis, red peppers, oranges and strawberries. However, you can also get your daily intake from supplements.
The Vitamin Shoppe’s on-staff nutritionist Jaclyn Jacobsen says that some warning signs of vitamin C deficiency include weight gain, fatigue, swollen/painful joints, decreased immune function, and nosebleeds.
“For adults, the recommended dietary reference intake for vitamin C is 65 to 90 milligrams (mg) a day, and the upper limit is 2,000 mg a day,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
