They Stay Hydrated

“Staying hydrated is so important—up to 60 percent of our bodies are made up of water,” says Amy Gorin, MS, RDN, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition in Jersey City, NJ. “When you feel thirsty, you’re likely already 1 to 2 percent dehydrated.” Carry around a water bottle with you to sip throughout the day, and make sure it’s a bottle that you like—for instance, there are wide-mouth bottles or ones with straws, she adds.

They Eat Fruits and Veggies Whenever They Can

One of Gorin’s favorite ways to eat fruits and veggies is to cook with 100 percent juice, especially 100 percent Concord grape juice. “Concord grapes are only available for a short amount of time each year, so the juice is a great way to take in the juice’s unique polyphenols, which help keep your heart healthy by promoting good circulation,” she says. “I like to use it in sauces for veggies (like in my Brussels Sprouts with Grape Honey Glaze) or as an ingredient in smoothies.”

They Have Emergency Supplies of Healthy Food on Hand

“My freezer is stocked with frozen veggies and fruit, and my pantry with brown rice and beans,” Gorin says. “So I have the makings of healthy meals if I were to forget to go grocery shopping one week, or if I were to come home after a vacation! Always be prepared.”

They Always Eat Breakfast

Yes, breakfast is really the most important meal of the day. Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast every morning tend to have better diets overall than those who do not. It helps boost your metabolism, increase your energy for the day, improve concentration and help with weight loss.

They Move Their Body Every Day

“The human body is designed for movement,” says fitness professional, Bek Strachan. “When it gets a taste of what it is created to do, it craves more of it and changes to accommodate what is required of it!"

They Set an Alarm and NEVER Snooze It

Healthy people prioritize exercise by scheduling their workouts the night before and setting their alarm to wake them up. “It can be so difficult initially getting up even though the bed is so warm and snug, but you'll NEVER regret that awesome workout,” Strachan says.

They Do Something Every Day That Makes Them Happy

“Life is meant to be lived and loved,” Strachan says. “Doing something every day, as simple as smelling the roses or smiling at the sky, that makes you feel warm and happy will do wonders for your mood and wellbeing.”

They Practice Portion Control

It’s imperative to get the right amount of servings, and follow standardized recipes exactly so you know the amount of calories you are consuming. Some portion control tricks include measuring and weighing your food, using simple substitutions and using portion control plates.

They Take Naps

If you want to improve your memory, alertness and ability to retain information, simply take a nap. These brief periods of rest have been shown to provide several benefits, including stress relief, which can ultimately lower your risk for health issues like heart disease. Aim for three 30 minute naps per week.
