If you want to lose weight, but can’t bring yourself to ditch dessert, researchers from Tel Aviv University have good news. Their new study, published in the journal Steroids, suggests the key to healthy indulgence is to have your sweets in the morning.
In fact, when dessert was part of a balanced, 600-carlorie breakfast that included proteins and carbohydrates, scientists found that dieters were more likely to lose weight and keep the weight off. In a 32-week study, participants who added dessert to their breakfast lost an average 40 pounds more than indivduals in the group who did not. They also kept the pounds off longer.
By indulging in the morning when your metabolism is most active, you are better able to work off the extra calories throughout the day, according to the researchers. If you try to avoid sweets entirely, you can actually create a psychological addiction to these same foods in the long-term.
