Cyclist rides Giro d'Italia with broken back

Theo Bos, a 28-year-old Rabobank sprinter, learned today that he cycled for two weeks in the Giro d’Italia with a broken back. After a crash in the final bend during the second stage in Herning, Denmark, on May 6, Bos continued to ride through intense pain, until he finally withdrew in stage 16, 2315 kilometers (that's 1,439 miles) later. The cyclist is now resting to heal the fracture in the L3 vertebrae in his lower spine.
