Gear Radar: Hydration Packs For Runners

Staff Writer
Salomon for long distance, Ultimate Direction for great fit

When it comes to hydration packs, there are a lot of options on the market. Freelance writer Kraig Becker recently took to the trails with some of the top models and wrote up a report for Gear Institute

Here we highlight Becker's top two picks. Check out the original article for the full specs and complete list of recommendations.

Salomon Skin Pro 14+3

Cost: $160
Weight: 16.5 ounces
Carrying Capacity: 17 liters
Notes: This lightweight pack got top scores for comfort and carrying capacity. Becker called the Salomon "quite possibly the perfect pack for ultra-distance runners or fast-packers." Rave reviews like this one may be the reason for the Salomon's hefty price tag.

Ultimate Direction Highline

Cost: $100
Weight: 22 ounces
Carrying Capacity: 2.8 liters plus two bottles
Notes: The best features of this pack are the breathable backpanel, easy-access storage and great fit. If you want ultralight, however, this is not the option for you. The thicker fabrics used in the design mean you'll carry extra ounces.
