“For those courageous and adventurous travelers who opt for a self-supported bicycle tour, make sure that your touring bike has fenders (unless of course you are riding in a desert). Expect rain, especially on a long tour; you will be thankful...those fenders will make all the difference! They don’t add much weight, but be aware that they aren’t as easy to manage if you load the bike in a bus or put the bike in a bag for train or other transportation.”
