The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games
The world's eyes are turned to Sochi and so are ours. Over the past few months we've been following the athletes, looking back at Olympic history and looking forward to what will be the largest Winter Olympics in history.[slideshow:870]
Over 2,800 athletes from a record 88 nations are competing in (another record) 98 medal events. This is to say nothing of the controversies surrounding the games, from security issues, to human rights concerns to huge cost overruns. But when competition kicks off Thursday the athletes themselves will take center stage—and we'll be watching. Will Shaun White take home his third-straight gold in the halfpipe? Will the brand-new slopestyle events go off without a hitch? Will Yuna Kim continue to wow the world in the figure skating arena?
