The half marathon: it’s a race that holds a special place in every long-distance runner’s heart.

The half is much less daunting than taking on the challenge of a full 26.2 miles, but it’s still every bit as challenging in its own unique ways.

According to the worldwide half marathon race calendar curated by ahotu Marathons, nearly 5,000 half marathons will take place around the world this year.

That’s a whole lot of 13.1-mile races, which is why we’re asking you to help us pick out the best of the best.

What makes a great half-marathon? Well, to name a few things: a scenic course lined with plenty of rowdy fans, well-organized logistics (starting corrals, fuel stations, etc.), an affordable entry fee, and a sweet, shiny medal.

But there’s so much more that goes into a memorable race, and you, the runners of the world, know exactly which half marathons are the most remarkable, and the intricate details that make them stand out among the rest.

To create a foundation for our survey and our final round-up, we outlined a list of some the world’s biggest and most-talked-about half marathon races based on our own race round-ups from the past, 2014 survey data from the 100 Half Marathons Club, and other expert lists.

This is the basis for our survey, but we also left room for you to write in your own answer in case your favorite half-marathon doesn’t appear on the initial list.

Just click the link to open the survey and vote. Let us know what half marathon is your favorite and don’t forget to tell us why you love it.

In about a week we’ll analyze the survey results, rank the races, and then present our final list of the best half marathons in the world.
