VIDEO: Exploring Mountains in a Wheelchair

Andy Campbell didn't let a terrible climbing injury keep him from exploring

In 2004, while climbing in the English Peak District, Andy Campbell’s belay snapped, and he fell 50 feet onto the rocks below. The results of the accident were devastating. Campbell broke his back, hips, pelvis and spinal column. He would be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life.

While such extensive injuries would have ended many people’s adventuring days, Campbell has kept going. He has scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef, paraglided over the French countryside and even still climbs.

In the video above, you see him doing all three.

“It’s definitely more of a challenge now, but that extra difficulty just makes the rewards even greater,” Campbell says.
