Lake Tahoe's Now a Surf Town, Too

How many places can you ski and surf in the same day? Now we know one.

If you think surfing is a sport confined to seaside towns, you should visit Lake Tahoe's North Shore.

As early winter storms kick up winds in this corner of the Sierras, Tahoe becomes a surf zone for a growing number of brave souls. Donning their wetsuits, locals face the cold weather and waters for the chance to shred the fresh, blue waves.

The conditions mean that Tahoe residents and visitors have a unique two-sport season starting in the late fall.

"Skiing and surfing in the same day is simply an amazing way to celebrate life," said local shredder Brennan Lagasse told ESPN. "To be able to surf and ski in the same day in Tahoe, as we've been able to do on a handful of days this fall, is something really special,"
