Visit: San Pedro—According to TripAdvisor, this highly sought after tropical destination was made famous by Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita.” But don’t worry, it’s not a total tourist trap. San Pedro is home to magnificent beaches with plenty of room for all visitors to share.

What to do: Don’t miss out on the chance to dive in “The Great Blue Hole”— a 10,000-year-old submarine sinkhole that’s part of the Belize Barrier Reef (the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere). You should also try snorkeling in Shark Ray Alley, cave tubing, horseback riding and scenic hiking.

Where to stay: If you’re in search of the best family-friendly hotel check out the Pelican Reef Villas Resort. Those on the hunt for a more romantic place to stay will find everything they’re looking for at The Phoenix Resort. And to get the most bang for your buck, TripAdvisor users suggest a stay at Athens Gate.

Where to Eat: Everyone knows that dessert is the most important meal of the day, and especially while you’re on vacation, which is why you absolutely cannot skip out on ordering ice cream from DandE’s Frozen Custard & Sobert. Caroline’s Cookin’ (barbecue) and Casa Picasso (Caribbean) are also two of the highest rated restaurants in the area.
