The Next Big Name in Climbing?

It's 11-year-old Mirko Caballero

The video above captures 11-year-old Mirko Caballero as he boulders in Bishop, CA. and Hueco Tanks, TX. in Winter 2011.

While most climbing press in 2012 rightly focused on another 11-year-old climber, Ashima Shiraishi, this video proves that there are a few more young athletes to watch with interest.

Just this week, Caballero sent Ubermensch (5.14a) in Pinnacles National Monument. This route was first completed by Chris Sharma when the climbing legend was 13 years old.

Caballero, who recently joined Five Ten as a sponsored youth team member, also finished several other 5.14a climbs this year, including Chemical Ali in Smith Rock, OR., and Ixeia in Rodellar, Spain.

Not only is he an accomplished sport climber, Caballero is also bouldering with the best of them. He finished his first V12 this year in Bishop.

Caballero hails from Los Gatos, California and has been climbing since the age of 6. To stay strong, he also trains in gymnastics.
