Little River Canyon National Preserve

Overview

Little River is unique because it flows for most of its length atop Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama. Forested uplands, waterfalls, canyon rims and bluffs, pools, boulders, and sandstone cliffs offer settings for a variety of recreational activities. Natural resources and cultural heritage come together to tell the story of the Preserve, a special place in the Southern Appalachians. One special way to enjoy the Little River Canyon National Preserve is the 11-mile scenic drive that stretches through the preserve. There are several outlook points along the drive where visitors can see beautiful scenery and wildlife. This unique opportunity offers visitors spectacular views of the canyon and other natural phenomena. Enjoy camping, backcountry activities, use of picnic areas, and outdoor sports. Visitors can hunt, fish, kayak, swim, hike, climb, and camp in the wilderness. Take a few steps away from the real world, and enjoy this beautifully scenic area, fun for all ages.
