How to Cross Train Like an Olympic Skier

Olympic ski cross athletes stay in shape by incorporating plenty of variety in their routines

It's no secret, getting in shape to compete at the Olympic level requires a rigorous and demanding training schedule.

“This is my job, I’m at the gym six days a week, I’m working out three times a day most days throughout the summer,” says Canadian Olympic Ski Cross Team member Georgia Simmerling.

How do you get fit enough for a sport as unpredictable and challenging as ski cross, though?

“I do a lot of other sports like road biking and I play a little floor hockey actually, just to work on my fast feet and my 10 yard dash and quick movement,” says Simmerling.

“It’s a full-time job. I don’t think elite athletes would do it if they didn’t love it, though. And I love it, and I’d say it’s one of the best jobs,” says Simmerling.
