Staff Writer

“Recovering from an injury but still want to maintain your fitness level? The most important thing you can do is to follow your doctor’s orders related to recovery and movement limitations.

“The biggest mistake people make is resuming an exercise routine too soon. Listen to your body and don’t ignore the symptoms. You may need to transition your exercise routine, but the most important thing is to maintain it.

“I have many patients who have changed their workout routine as a result of an injury. After I broke my knee more than six years ago, I transitioned from running to walking. Today I have no knee pain and I am still able to maintain my exercise routine while improving my health.”

Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH, coined the word ‘aerobics’ and is recognized as the leader of the international physical fitness movement. He is the founder and chairman of Cooper Aerobics.
